Reducing Spending

Reducing Spending

At the beginning of each year, Congress lays out a strategy to carefully manage federal spending. Part of that plan sometimes involves changes that are made to formula-driven spending programs, like Social Security and Medicaid.

In addition to the work on the budget, Congressman Westmoreland helped lead a group of House Republicans identifying cuts to spending. "Operation Offset" is another attempt to closely monitor and cut spending where it is not directly needed. Operation Offset is a list of options that looks for cuts in waste, fraud, and abuse in federal government spending, along with cutting unnecessary programs. There is a desperate need for fiscal responsibility in Washington, and Congressman Westmoreland will continue to closely monitor federal spending.

The Congressman will continue to work towards providing a budget with reasonable, common-sense priorities such as: keeping America free by maintaining its strength around the world, and its security at home; supporting the economic prosperity that assures work and opportunities for all Americans; and securing opportunity for future generations by maintaining lower tax burdens and reining in the growth of government spending
